Supporting healthcare in the northeast
A long flexible tube inserted into the rectum with a tiny camera at the tip that allows the physician to view inside the entire colon. A colonoscope is used to:
Defibrillators restore a normal heartbeat by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart, to prevent or correct an arrythmia:
This specialized equipment is used to show the body in motion, providing real-time images. Imaging of this kind allows for the detection and diagnosis of conditions that may not be seen on static imaging. Fluoroscopy can be used for procedures such as upper gastrointestinal series/modified swallow studies, small bowel follow through, barium enemas, cortisone injections and more. The Timmins and District hospital is the only hospital in northeastern Ontario that has a fluoroscopy unit.
Hematology analyzers provide an inside view of what the cells in our blood stream look like. The complete blood count that it provides can tell a lot about a patient’s status. It can range from bleeding to infections, iron deficiencies, the ability to hold oxygen, organ complications, leukemia status and many other items. It also provides the information that the care team can use to monitor inpatients and outpatients to ensure they are responding accordingly to treatment.
The infant warmer provides effective warming therapy for babies, a place for healthcare practitioners to conduct assessments, and has the components for emergency resuscitation.
The biliblanket uses phototherapy to treat jaundice in babies. These blankets allow babies to still be held, providing better bonding and higher quality developmental care.
Microscopes are used across all areas of the laboratory; hematology, microbiology, chemistry and histology. They are used to examine blood cells, bacteria, tissues samples and more.
High-quality surgical lights provide natural colour rendition, excellent shadow control, and deep-cavity illumination, helping the surgical team accurately and consistently assess and interpret tissue and vessel appearance.
Ultrasound systems provide precise scans such as measuring a 5 mm embryo or documenting measurements supporting the diagnosis of potentially life-threatening conditions. The new units provide clearer imaging, more efficient scans, more accurate diagnosis and ultimately better outcomes. They also meet the needs of the sonographer by reducing workplace injury or strain.
This unit is used to identify and provide antibiotic susceptibility testing on most organisms received from wounds, urines, and blood cultures. This helps provide patient diagnosis and treatment quickly. The analyzer helps obtain faster results as the samples would otherwise have to be sent out to be tested.
